Chemical retention
Handling and storing chemicals are essential activities in many industrial sectors. However, these substances can present risks to the environment and human health in the event of leakage or accidental spillage. In order to minimize these risks, the law requires that these products be stored using solutions that enable them to be retained in the event of a leak or accident.
Safety standards
What laws apply to storage?
The decree of October 4, 2010 governs the storage of all liquids liable to pollute soil or water. Depending on the quantity and type of chemicals stored, different rules apply:
For storage with a total capacity of over 250 liters:
- 100% of the capacity of the largest container ;
- 50% of the total capacity of all associated containers.
For storage with a total capacity of less than 250 liters:
For flammable products (except lubricants): 50% of the total capacity of all associated containers;
For other products, 20% of the total capacity of all associated containers must be respected.
